Analyzing a morning meeting for K-2 WITH LEARNING VARIABILITIES
I created a versatile Morning Meeting structure that can be implemented both in person and online, fostering a sense of community and creating a safe, joyful, and predictable space for all students. Morning meetings are essential for setting a positive tone for the day and supporting students’ social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
This resource is built as a Reusable Learning Object, grounded in Mayer’s Multimedia Principles, ensuring that multimedia elements are presented in ways that enhance—rather than distract from—learning. The meeting includes hands-on activities, music, movement, and visual supports, addressing multiple learning modalities and preferences.
The morning meeting is accessible via low-tech communication boards as well as devices, with multiple means of engagement and expression. It is personalized based on student interests, allowing them to engage meaningfully and at their own pace.
Activities are developmentally appropriate and standards-aligned, promoting active participation through music, movement, and interactive tools that support deep engagement for students that require communication, socialization, cognition, and emotional regulation needs.
